Developing a Successful Home Business

Staying focused and motivated are some of the main keys to developing a successful home business. At start-up, these skills are necessary to create a plan and get the information and training you need to develop your ideas. It is not possible to achieve your goals without first having a plan of action regarding the steps you will take to hit your target. Everybody has a different style and some are more creative and less organized, so while we may take different paths to get to the prize, getting there will involve navigating to that end. Much easier if you know at least vaguely where you are going.

reach your goal

Try to stay on the most direct course if you want to accomplish your goals sooner rather than later. This means you must focus in the middle of life which is often full of chaos. There is a real art to not letting things distract you and/or prevent you from doing what you have planned. Of course some things can’t be avoided and for these you should actually develop a contingency plan. In other words, if Plan A is not working or there is some obstacle, then have a Plan B and do that instead. The point of course is to keep moving forward and never quit or wait, no matter what.

Different things motivate different people. For some they need to ‘visualize’ what they will buy with the money they earn and some teach even going so far as to cut out pictures of things and paste them to your mirror so you see the fancy sports car, the Italian villa, the diamond necklace, etc. This may work in the long run but it seems kind of silly in that realistically your goal would be something in line with ‘earning my first $100 from my home business’ and it would actually be quite some time before someone was able to live the ostentacious life style.

Imagining fantasy scenarios can be fun, and it might actually work to motivate someone, but at the same time there is an equal chance that someone will become discouraged when in the first years of developing a home business they are seeing lots of work and learning curves and have yet to see much in the way of tangible rewards. This is just normal and nothing to get bummed out over. It’s reality. We have to work and invest our time and effort if we want to see the money.

While competing with other people is not that great of a way to motivate a lot of people, some might respond to this method. More likely competing with yourself would be more appropriate. In other words just like exercising – at first you are sluggish and tire easily, but if you are focused and determined to keep it up, you will build momentum and feel stronger each time; you will naturally want to do more of what makes you feel good or that produces the desired results. You can really get a great feeling of self-esteem from exercising, whether it is your mind, your body or your spirit.

Something else that has to do with mindset and might be considered a competitive strategy to keep motivated would be self-talk. Self talk can be telling yourself that you can do so much more than what you are given credit for at your job. You will show them or at least yourself that you can and you will earn more money than what they think you are worth. You may also be pleasantly surprised at how liberating it feels when you can take control of your own financial situation and realize you can earn as much as you want to when you are working for yourself and not anybody else.

Building a Home Business: Focus on Your Target

There are lots of reasons why you may not be able to totally focus on your target when you are planning on building a home business; probably as many reasons as there are hours in the day. Many other things constantly demand your attention and interrupt you repeatedly.

walk the tightrope!

Life gets in the way. You may have a stressful day job, a rough commute, a family, pets, etc. that are important to you and need to be dealt with first. So you have to find time for your home business project and somehow squeeze this extra activity into your busy schedule.

It already sounds like your home business will have the lowest priority, but as long as you at least see it as more important than watching TV or hanging out somewhere with friends, your business will have a chance. So it may be that amid all the chaos that is life, you have to start seeing your business as the target.

Everything else needs to be taken care of so that it will be out of the way and then you can focus on what you need to do to develop your business. At first this will be research and planning. What kind of a business you want will largely be determined by your skills and other resources you may have or need to acquire.

It is always a good idea to map it all out – starting from why you want and need to start a business. Focus on this, because you will need to get and stay motivated throughout the process. You may need some extra encouragement because you are likely pretty tired by the time you get to focus on your business and it is always easy to say ‘later’ or ‘tomorrow’.

There are some really good analogies and ‘mottos’ that you can focus on when you need to push yourself in the right direction. Sometimes that is all it takes to trigger a nice spurt of energy to go that extra mile. Short of a ‘cat nap’ or some quick exercises, you could keep at least one analogy in front of your mind.

For example there is a story about someone on a diet. Of course the target is to lose weight. The dieter is diligent to follow the diet which avoids fattening foods, and to replace them with vegetables or other healthful foods; the dieter exercises regularly to burn calories, measure their success, etc. It is all encompassing to be on a diet!

There are still temptations and some schools of thought would say that this person deserves a splurge. They have worked so hard that they should be able to have that nice piece of triple chocolate cake as a ‘reward’ for their good behavior all week.

Sounds ok until you realize that deserve or not, having that piece of cake is not taking you closer to your goal but taking you further away from it. Even for one lousy piece of cake, you are losing maybe a week of momentum. Whereas if you somehow can get past the temptation and feeling of entitlement, you are sure to reach your goal sooner.

So particularly with your home business’ development do not wait until tomorrow and be squirreling off into different directions. Do you realize you could lose your day job tomorrow? Or that something could happen that requires some extra money right away? Ever think about how much you are paying on your credit card or other debt?

It is of major importance to get out from under all that risk that is just compounding. Take control of your future right now and go that extra mile to reach your target goal of eventual financial independence today. Focus on your target of building a home business, and while it may not be your first priority, it has to be one of the top priorities if you want it to be a success.

Working at Home Virtual Reality Plus Reality (Virtuality)

Defining Virtual:
1. very close to being something without actually being it
2. existing or occurring on computers or on the Internet
Merriam Webster Dictionary

virtual vs reality

Defining Virtual Reality, which can be referred to as immersive multimedia or computer-simulated life, replicates an environment that simulates physical presence in… Wikipedia: http://www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_reality

Reality: Physical presence, actuality. This would be us sitting at our computers in our home office. This is where we need to conduct business. With our trusty Internet connection we have access to virtuality and the massive sea of information and opportunities.

We can learn how to drive traffic on the information super highway (in virtuality) right from home, instead of being stuck in traffic commuting to and from a job for unpaid hours every day in reality. Commuting is a total drudgery that contributes to the destruction of our sense of well-being because it is so much stress, always being in a rush, unable to go fast enough, stuck in a perpetual traffic jam.

If you have ever had to stay home from work for an extended period you will realize how there are so many hours in the day you may have forgotten existed; this is time where you can be productive in different ways as necessary, and alternating with having time to enjoy your space.

Do you commute one hour each way to and from work almost every day? Well if that is 5-days x 2 hours – you have 10-hours where you could be productive or do something healthy and/or extra for your family. So when you are able to earn income from home you start right out with this benefit.

There will also be money saved when you are not commuting, so along with your 10-hours put a couple hundred dollars a month back in your pocket (for example if you spend $5-10 a day for gas, bridge, parking, or mass transit it would be $100-200 liberated spending money!

Wahoo! There is more time to go shopping and more money to spend! Can you see this vs living paycheck to paycheck and spending most of your waking time working or going to and from your job. So this is just the basics and now that we are comfortable and happy we can get down to work and earning income from home!

That’s just Reality – there is no wealth without work. It’s not that there is absolutely no magic in virtual reality because actually there is plenty, technically speaking. Unfortunately money appearing ‘out of thin air’ is not either reality or virtual reality. No matter how lofty our ideals, we must take action to make them real.
