If You Can’t Find a Job – Create One

Frankly for financial reasons it is a lot more ideal if you can develop a part-time business when you still have an income to support yourself. However if you are not prepared when you lose your job, you can still work it out if you are really focused, disciplined and determined to land on your feet.

create a job

You have to be realistic, no matter how shocking it is to lose your job unexpectedly. Take a few days to digest the information and get your bearings. If you are being laid off in a workforce reduction the theory is to let you know on a Friday. This is so it doesn’t disrupt your job performance during the week and so that you will have a few non-business days to get used to the idea that you have nowhere to go on Monday.

Typically they have known about this for some time but do not let you know because they want to lessen the chances of sabotage or other problems. This let’s you know that where your employer is concerned, you are not a person, just a position. They have their bottom line and it is nothing personal, so don’t feel bad if you can help it. It may seem brutal and it is, but that is reality.

However the better companies would at least give you severance pay based on your length of employment with them and pay your for any unused vacation time that you have. The fact that you are being let go without cause in most states automatically entitles you to unemployment insurance. So all that together with anything you have saved is what you have to work with.

Start right here with creating a budget and a plan for how you will survive and pay your bills until you find another income. You might be very surprised if you take stock in how much you have been spending just to go to and from work. You can factor that in to money you now have available that you didn’t have before. This refers primarily to transportation – gas expense or mass transit costs, bridge tolls and parking; and it also can include child care, grooming and wardrobe costs, lunches out, etc. It really adds up when you start to itemize it.

If you have little or no employment severance benefits and no savings, then your first priority is to find a job at least part-time or temporary. If you are looking at the job boards online you will invariably start seeing ‘business opportunities’ and ‘earning money from home’ etc. Be careful here and do not ever feel that you are desperate and need to take unnecessary risks or compromise your identity. However you can start to do a little research – but again, focus on getting an income coming in the fastest way you can – and that is usually another job. One very good way to ‘kill two birds with one stone’ is to work for a temporary agency.

Starting a business takes time – there is a learning curve and you need time to implement what you learn. Then of course contrary to what it may seem you are reading, it does take time to produce results. So you are a ways away from an income. That is why you first need to ensure your survival so that you can then focus on doing everything you can to build your business.

Besides your financial budget, you should also schedule your time each day, because you need to see your actions to find an income as the job that you have now. Don’t get lost on the Internet – focus only on seeing what jobs are available, get the contact information and make an appointment for an interview if possible. Of course you will need to create a decent resume for this purpose going in. Just make a note about business opportunities for starting a home business and refer back to them later.

So say out of an 8 hour day you spend 2 hours on the Internet and because you have an interview, with travel time etc you want to schedule 3 hours to get ready and go. That leaves 3 hours in your workday and you can spend this time researching starting your own business. Once you determine what you want to do then you can spend the time implementing that (… and this would be another plan you need to create).

You will be so productive and busy that you will not have a minute to regret any doors that have closed and can really see your new life as an exciting adventure that is so much more stimulating than the ‘same-old-same-old’ rut you were in. If you focus you will not only survive nicely but you will find that your former employer really did you a favor by letting you go!

Home Business Opportunity Shopping – Get Real

There is apparently something very exciting and very compulsive about shopping for home business opportunities. People seem like they become crazed like ladies at a close-out shoe sale. Maybe it is because they want to believe literally and implicitly what they think they are reading – and more or less (maybe purposely) ignore anything that would tell them otherwise (is logical).

get real

People want to get rich right now and they don’t want to work for it. They want to believe there is magic and all their money problems are just about over with. It’s as if people don’t read the fine print. They are seduced by the ‘only $1′ to start and then they don’t seem to understand what ‘start’ means. It means it’s only the beginning. First base.

A free or $1 trial can be a blessing in that you have the ability to read things behind the scenes and have access to resources temporarily so that you can judge for yourself if the program has any worth. You have a chance to find out what the compensation plan is and to decide whether you feel that is acceptable or not before you expend any more energy in that direction.

The deal is there is no commitment as long as you cancel the membership before the trial period is over. When you signed up for the trial you likely gave your credit card or payment information so that the recurring (typically monthly) billing could start as soon as the trial period has lapsed. This should be a major clue that there are other charges beyond the $1. hello?

While you are looking over the program details be sure to find out how much the monthly charge is going to be and determine whether or not you can afford it comfortably. Do not speculate, as in ‘oh, I will surely be earning money in 7-days, 30 days…’. But what if you don’t? Will the mortgage wait? (no) Will they leave the lights on if you don’t pay? (no) So you don’t want to gamble with these essential necessities. Just don’t do it unless you have the money for both your survival and your business opportunity shopping spree.

Realize that ‘you can make money today’ means there is a possibility that you can – it does not mean it is guaranteed in any shape, way or form unless that is stated exactly – what is guaranteed, and by when. Since it is technically illegal for anyone to guarantee how much money you will earn, you should be very wary of anything that says otherwise.

Seriously, unless that company will take money out of their own pocket to pay you what they guarantee, and/or they will literally provide you with paying customers*, then they have no way to foresee the future and cannot legally guarantee anything other than what they can do directly. (*even at that how can they guarantee the customers won’t quit next month?).

Really make a list of what you are signing up for and outline the details. How much is the trial? For how long is the trial? How much does it cost after the trial? Is it per month or what is the arrangement? What OTHER programs did you sign up for? How much are those? What is the TOTAL that you are going to owe now and each month? WHERE will you get this amount? (remember do not speculate).

It is also imperative that you set a budget and stick to it. If you determine after your bills and survival necessities, that you have $50 or $100 left to invest each month in a business, then stick to that, no matter what. Remember that it may really be a big help to you if you can afford to pay for some advertising and marketing; (even though there are also many ways to do things for free online to support your home business opportunities, they take time and effort). So reserve some of your funds for that purpose. Go slow and plan wisely so that you do not ‘get in over your head’ or almost as bad, get in a big rush and then just give up before you have given it a fair chance because you ‘can’t afford it’.

Get Started Now to Earn Extra Money Online

Nobody can know what is just around the corner. While we hope for the best it might be that we are going to lose our source of income someday unexpectedly. Unfortunately that is not the time to try to start a business unless we have saved money and have severance pay and/or unemployment insurance.

In other words, unless you have money to live on, you need to focus on getting a job rather than to speculate on starting a business online. Nobody knows how long it will take you to develop a source of income from your own business and while it is much, much less expensive to start a business on the Internet than it is offline, it is going to take some resources – for sure your time and effort, and possibly some money if you have it, will make things much easier to be possible.

It is preposterous and sad to hear people that are only at the stage of trying to learn how to navigate the Internet and really not even on first-base yet, being fearful about not making the rent or the car payment. This of course puts them in the desperate category and this is bad for a whole bunch of reasons.

First of all when people are desperate that is when they are most vulnerable – they can make unwise decisions because they are not thinking clearly but are instead emotional – and with good reason, but we need to try not to get in this kind of a mess. Also not the best environment if you are in a rush; it’s just not possible to rush some things (unless of course you have a lot of money, which the majority do not).

If you don’t have a contingency plan (savings, etc), good luck on starting a business living under a bridge or in your car. Sounds melodramatic but it does happen even to professionals – let alone people (the majority) who live from paycheck to paycheck. It is much smarter to try to find at least a part-time job FIRST so that you have some income that you can count on. If you can start this while you STILL have unemployment benefits you can report your income and this will result in your benefits being stretched longer.

So the point is do not wait until you are ‘between a rock and a hard place’ to decide to earn some extra money to save or pay down your bills. Do it while you have an income and a place to live, etc. Don’t be in denial about the possibility of needing to survive without a job in the future. It can happen in a heartbeat. Don’t think because you try so hard to do a good job, and get so many compliments that the business would hesitate to let you go if their bottom line depended on it or their superiors directed them to reduce the workforce immediately.

That is just how the world economy is these days. It is nothing personal. However you do need to get your head out of the sand and take action today so that you are prepared financially in case it happens to you. Look at it as using your time wisely and instead of surfing the net just for fun, start doing some research on how you could earn extra money online in your spare time today.
